Canberra Highland Society and Burns Club to celebrate 100th year at Thoroughbred Park

The Canberra Racing Club is delighted to announce a partnership that will see the Canberra Burns Club celebrate the 100th anniversary year for the Canberra Highland Society and Burns Club at Thoroughbred Park.

As part of the 100th year anniversary celebrations, the Burns Club will host a Scottish-themed race day on Saturday, 1 June.

Canberra Racing Club Chief Executive Darren Pearce said, “We are honoured to help the Canberra Highland Society and Burns Club celebrate what is such a momentous occasion.”

“100 years is a remarkable achievement and is testament to their commitment and connection to the Canberra community.”

“In partnership with the Burns Club, we will put on a special and fun filled day worthy of a 100 year celebration.”

Canberra Burns Club President Athol Chalmers added, “The Canberra Burns Club is delighted to be partnering with the Canberra Racing Club to host a Scottish themed race day.

“The Burns Club played a key role in the establishment of the Canberra Racing Club in the mid-1940s, to be able to jointly celebrate that role as part of our Centenary Year is a testament to the strength of our relationship with the Canberra Racing Club and to the ongoing commitment of both organisations to Canberra and the region.

“I encourage all current and past members of the Burns Club to come along on 1 June and enjoy a great afternoon of celebration.”

The Scottish-themed day will celebrate all things Highland culture with bagpipes, scotch whiskey tastings and kilts to be a prominent part of race day fashion.

The Canberra Racing Club in conjunction with the Burns Club will offer free entry to the community to what will be a family-friendly event.

As part of the partnership, the Canberra Racing Club will host its inaugural Golf Day at the Burns Golf Club on Thursday, 30 May with funds to be raised for the Australian Racing Christian Chaplaincy who provides counselling services to those in need.
