Work Ready To Begin On Canberra’s New Synthetic Racetrack

The mixing plant has arrived on site for Canberra’s new synthetic racetrack.

Canberra Racing Club CEO Peter Stubbs says the wax and fibres — which have been shipped from Germany — are arriving daily from Port Botany.

“We will start mixing the materials from next Monday,” Stubbs says.

“The existing Acton surface will be closed for trackwork from Saturday the 6th of August and on that day we will start removing the existing surface.

“And then we have to do some minor drainage work and that process will take a week.

“We’ll then start laying the new track on the 15th of August and it should be all in place by the end of that month.

“Trackwork will start shortly after that; we’ll have some jump-outs and barrier trials and race on it on the 9th of September.”
