Upwards for Single Gaze

Star Canberra mare Single Gaze has come through her tough run in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) in good order, according to trainer Nick Olive.

Single Gaze was forced to work hard outside the leader Samovare and did a big job to finish just 1.9L behind the winner Bonneval.

“It would have been nice for her to get a softer run for another furlong,” Olive said.

“She knew she’d been around. But she pulled up well and has eaten-up.”

“She was having a nice time down the beach this morning (Tuesday) and has shown in Melbourne she’s competitive against some of the best horses in the land.”

Single Gaze’s next assignment is the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on the 14 October before her target race — the Caulfield Cup.
