The Group 3 John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes is Canberra's premier race day. The inaugural Black Opal Stakes in 1973 was won by Rich Reward. The race meeting is one of the more important Autumn race days on the calendar for 2yo's.
The Black Opal Stakes program includes the tab.com.au Canberra Cup. The eight race program includes; the $275,000 Mercedes-Benz Canberra Black Opal Stakes (Group 3), the $200,000 tab.com.au Canberra Cup (Listed), $125,000 (Canberra) National Sprint (Listed) and the $125,000 Canberra Guineas (Listed).
Race nominations for all races close on Tuesday 6th March 2018 at 11am.
