Olive Pulls Right Rein With Corsa Rosa
Canberra based trainer Nick Olive reaped all the rewards for putting his faith into progressive filly Corsa Rosa when she triumphed at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Having also been nominated to line up at her home track on Friday, Olive elected to make the three hour drive up to Sydney and take on the far tougher assignment with his daughter of Dubawi.
Returning to form at Canberra last start when leading all the way to score with considerable ease, Corsa Rosa was surprisingly ridden off the speed on this occasion after race leaders Star Of Helicon and Lisa Lost It set up a cracking speed up front.
"We would have like to have led but we figured they were going to go too hard in front and we would be better off taking a nice trail from the good draw," Olive said.
"Fortunately for us we did that and it worked out perfectly."
Admitting she had proven quite a handful throughout her career, Olive said he had always held her in high regard.
"She has always had ability this horse we've just had a few problems with her," Olive said.
"She's a bit cantankerous and has taken a bit of sorting out, but we're getting there with her now."
Canberra based jockey Brendan Ward proved successful in pulling of a hit and run mission when saluting aboard his only ride of the day.
"It worked out perfectly, they went very quick up in front and we took a drop on them and worked home very strongly at the end," Ward said.
"I'm glad Nick [Olive] decided to run her here and not Canberra on Friday because I don't come to town much and it's great to get a winner."
In what has proven quite the happy hunting ground for Olive this season having collected two wins from just seven attempts he also appears well on track to extend his lead in the Canberra Racing Club's Trainer Premiership on Friday.
Currently sitting one win ahead of the Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones stable, Olive will saddle up a number of key leading chances at the first meeting back on the Acton track including Our Penny Girl, Key The Can, Doubtful Miss and Rose Of Falvelon.
