Quartzite a narrow favourite for Opal
The Tim Martin-trained Quartzite narrowly holds favouritism for the Listed Black Opal Stakes (1200m) at Canberra’s Thoroughbred Park on Sunday.
Quartzite has been installed as the $4.80 favourite for the feature juvenile event at Canberra’s Thoroughbred Park on Sunday ahead of the stakes placed Sidestep [$5] and Criterion [$5].
The Exceed And Excel colt debuted at Wyong on February 20 when a close second behind Crimson Arrow.
Quartzite’s two trial wins have been eye catchers though, enough to see the colt quoted as favourite for the $250,000 Listed event for two-year-olds.
Sidestep contests the event first up after placing on debut in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) at Sandown.
Stablemate Epaulette won the 2012 renewal.
He is also a half brother to other Peter Snowden-trained Group winners Skilled and Ambidexter.
Metropolitan winner Criterion resumed well in the Canonbury Stakes while Mr Jackman and Raise No Doubt are the other two youngsters currently quoted at single figure odds.
