More gossip on the Black Opal Stakes

‘All the Talk’ heads the order of entry for the Kamberra Wine Company Black Opal Stakes Black to be run on Sunday.

All the Talk, a colt by Stratum finished  4th in last Saturdays Silver Slipper a Group 2 race, and  he won a Saturday race at Warwick Farm in December,  in four race starts he has won $103,850 in prize money.  His trainer Gary Portelli is no stranger to winning Black Opal’s having won three with Coral Salute in 2001, Down the Wicket in 2006 and Delago Bolt in 2009.  

Next in order is Criterion trained by David Payne a listed place getter in the Canonbury Stakes and a Saturday winner at Rosehill in November.

Twenty- nine entries were received when nominations closed this morning, the final field will be narrowed down to a maximum of 14 and 4 emergencies after acceptances close at 9am on Thursday.

It is no surprise that Niwot last year’s Sydney Cup winner heads the weights in the ACTTAB Canberra Centenary Cup with 60kg with his stablemate 2010 Melbourne Cup place getter Maluckyday allocated 59kg.

Overall nominations for the race meeting are of outstanding quality the Mercedes Benz Canberra  National Sprint top weight Alma’s Fury is a last start Group 2 winner, the  Affinity Construction Management Canberra Guineas top weight Ashokan has been performing well at group level in recent starts and horses at the top of the weights in the Biretta & Busby Hatmaker Co. Camarena Quality include Uate placed at listed level at this last two starts and Unanimously coming off a fifth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate.

Final fields for all races will be released shortly after 10am on Thursday.
