Course Proper - the proper return!

Racing will return to the course proper at Canberra this Friday after a successful winter season on the Acton Synthetic track.

The eight race programme has brought strong acceptances of local and non local horses and is sure to be a very competitive days racing.

The first meeting on the course proper was scheduled for two weeks ago but an explosion and fire in the surrounding area caused the meeting to be called off.

The feature event on the programme will be the Grahame Bugden Golf Benchmark 75 Handicap which is to be run over 1200 metres.

Eight horses have accepted for the race headlined by the Matthew Dale-trained Happy Finish who is resuming from a spell.

The eight-year-old veteran finished last preparation with a second in the Wagga Town Plate and is sure to be competitive here after Dale decided to scratch at Canterbury during the week.

The Keith Dryden-trained General Jay Dee will be looking to bounce back to the winners circle after finishing twelfth at Warwick Farm last start after winning two in a row at Canberra.

The Eastlake Football Club Group Benhmark 64 Handicap (1600m) will also create plenty of interest which includes the inform Money Never Sleeps from the Mick Smith stable and Umalass who has won her last two in a row and will have to contend with the widest barrier of eight runners.

Plenty of horses coming back from a spell will go head to head in the Federal Golf Club Benchmark 60 Handicap including the Norm Gardner-trained Hurriconi and Rustyroller who won at Kembla Grange before going for a spell.

Plenty of three year-olds will also be out to take advantage of the new CanBOBS bonus scheme of $5,000 which will be eligible in every race on the card.
