Strong nominations for ACTTAB Tony Campbell Memorial Cup
Ten nominations have been taken for the Tony Campbell Memorial Cup to be run at Canberra this Friday; including the Nick Olive- Canberra trained duo Zaratone and NSW Champion Country Horse Of The Year Voice Commander.
Zaratone, who took out the race last year returned in good order when winning the Starlight Stakes just over two weeks ago at Rosehill and will be looking to continue his good form which includes three wins from four starts on the track.
Voice Commander comes into the race first-up from a spell and will no doubt be looking for more ground into his campaign.
The seven-year-old was tagged as ‘king of the country cups’ last preparation when claiming three cups and winning the Frank Underwood Cup.
Other nominations include local horses such as Acta Non Verba and Vilakazi Street from the Keith Dryden stable, both of which have been racing well of late.
The Graeme Murray trained Kenny’s World will look to add to his good second-up record after running seventh behind Skytrain when first-up at Warwick Farm.
The race is named after race caller Tony Campbell who was involved with Canberra racing for 29 years and passed away in 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer.
2011 marks the sixth running of the event which will feature an eight race programme on the Canberra Acton track.
