Godolphin, raiders of the Black Opal

The 2018 John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes is shaping to benefit from this year’s intense competition to make the field for the rich Golden Slipper Stakes.

Godolphin is expected to run ENCRYPTION in next Sunday’s Black Opal rendition.

The stable has indicated that the Lonhro colt with be joined by last start Brisbane winner OLD NORTH who will compete in the National Sprint.

Encryption was beaten a lip in the G3 before spelling and the two lead-up runs at Caulfield in G3 and G1 competition should have him primed for Black Opal success.

Multiple Black Opal-winning trainer Gerald Ryan says LEGEND OF CONDOR is likely to represent the yard on this year’s race; looking to emulate the feats of Trapeze Artist in last year’s event.

Legend Of Condor placed third in Saturday’s G2 Skyline Stakes at Randwick enduring a hard run. If he comes to Canberra, leading Melbourne hoop Mark Zahra will ride.

Stablemate ALBUMIN is expected to run in the XXX Gold Canberra Guineas following his first-up 1.5L defeat in the G3 Zeditave Stakes.

It’s also reported that the Black Opal could be the next assignment for PRAIRIE FIRE from the powerful Mick Price stable in Melbourne.

The colt ran fourth in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield two weekends ago.
