Star Canberra Mare Single Gaze Spot On For Peter Young Stakes

Single Gaze goes into Saturday’s Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) in peak condition, according to trainer Nick Olive.

Olive says Single Gaze has improved off her near-miss in the CF Orr Stakes and says “she is as good as I have had her”.

“She pleased on the steeple grass at Caulfield on Tuesday morning, finishing her work strongly.

“She went to the beach yesterday and this morning had a trot and canter and all is in order.”

On Saturday, Single Gaze again meets Hartnell who just nutted her in the CF Ore Stakes, as well as last-start winner Gailo Chop.

Among the other gallopers that create interest are Harlem and The Taj Mahal, the first runner for new Macedon Lodge trainer, Liam Howley.

Olive’s immediate attention is focussed on tomorrow’s (Friday) Lightning Ridge Plate Day at Canberra, where he has leading chances in the main races.

He lines up Dreaming with Biscay and Sizzling Belle in the Lightning Ridge, and says he is very happy with both. They meet the well-performed Team Snowden-trained Bondi in much anticipated race.

Olive’s Let It Roll looks a leading chance in the Canberra Cup Prelude, pitted again chief rival, the Matt Dale-trained last start winner, Fun Tickets.

“Let It Roll has to come back from 1900m, but his work has been terrific.”

Olive expects a bold run first up from Bring A Secret in the $40,000 TAB Federal – Burley Griffin Handicap, where Matt Dale’s Zafina is likely to start favourite.
