Maryore to run in Flemington on Cup day

Canberra is likely to be represented by two horses on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington.

If all goes to plan Caulfield Cup runner-up Single Gaze will take her place in the 2017 Melbourne Cup for Nick Olive.

And Joe Ible is setting Maryore up for a first-up tilt in the Group 3, 2017 Maybe Mahal Stakes for mares over 1400m.

Maryore won the 2017 Provincial Championships when trained by Phillip Courtney and then spelled in Queensland before joining Ible’s Canberra team.

Maryore had a long autumn and winter campaign and Ible has given her plenty of time to strengthen for her race return.

“It has always been my attention to give her just one or two races in the spring before setting her for an autumn campaign,” Ible says.

“She looks tremendous and has come back stronger.

“She trialled in Sydney recently with Tim Clark aboard and he was impressed with the way she strode out. She will trial again at Randwick next week over 1200m.”

Clark rode Maryore in her Provincial Champion success and Ible says the mare will be primed for a bold first up run.

Ible says it’s a testament to the quality of the training facilities in Canberra that the capital can be represented by two runners on Melbourne Cup day program — including the Cup.  He says he’s very happy with the way his team in going, with its focus on quality, and says he has a number of well-bred young horses in particular that are shaping-up well.
