Cahill Heads Canberra Jockey Premiership

Cowra-based jockey Matthew Cahill has got the 2016-17 Racing season off to a flyer and leads the Canberra Jockey Premiership.

Cahill has ridden 7 winners in the capital since 1 August at a strike rate of 26%

Last year’s premiership winner Brendan Ward is hot on Cahill’s heals with 6 winners (20%), followed by Jay Ford 5 and John Kissick 4.

This season Cahill has been striking at 22% which is well-above his all-season average.

And he’s been a punter’s pal returning a 30% profit on turnover (POT).

His association with Canberra’s Ron Weston–John Nisbet stable has been most profitable, returning 4 winners from 8 rides for a POT of 478%!

Canberra Group 1 winning trainer Nick Olive has also recorded a particularly strong start to the season with 6 Canberra winners at a strike rate of 26%.

So to the newly formed Keith Dryden-Scott Collings partnership which has also delivered 6 wins (20%), followed by last year’s premier trainer Matt Dale on 4 (36%), and Weston-Nisbet also 4 (36%).

Brock Ryan (3) leads Nick Heywood (2) and Jason Devrimol (2) for the Canberra apprentice jockey’s title.

The next Canberra race meeting will be held on Melbourne Cup Day, on Tuesday 1 November - one of club's biggest social occasions of the year.
