Canberra’s 9 September Meeting Transferred to The Course Proper

The Canberra Racing Club meeting on Friday 9 September has been transferred to the course proper.

The meeting was to be run on the new Acton synthetic surface but wet weather has delayed the final levelling operations for the resurfaced track.

Club CEO Peter Stubbs says the amended distances are as follows:

$18,000 Benchmark 70 1600 metres

$18,000 Benchmark 65 1200 metres

$18,000 Benchmark 60 1400 metres

$18,000 Benchmark 55 1000 metres

$18,000 Class 2  1200 metres

$18,000 Class 1 & Maiden Plate 2000 metres

$18,000 Maiden Plate 1000m

$18,000 Maiden Plate 1300 metres

Stubbs says multiple power rakes are used to finally level the track to a uniform depth and the wet weather in the Capital has delayed this process.

“By Monday we will have lost four crucial days and have run out of time to pass the track on Tuesday — prior to acceptances on Wednesday — for the race meeting to proceed on Friday,” Stubbs says.

“The synthetic material mix is very good and we are confident that the track will provide an excellent racing surface next winter — and for training from later next week."

The Club apologised to owners and trainers for the inconvenience.
