Nick Olive Unveils Black Opal Stakes Prospect

Canberra-trainer looks to have another promising youngster on his hands following Sizzling Belle’s win in Saturday’s 2yo Plate at Rosehill.

The Magic Millions-purchased filly hit the lead in the straight with Kathy O’Hara aboard and held off Outrageous who came hard.

A bit of a Single Gaze lookalike, Sizzling Belle will target the $275,000 Black Opal Stakes to be run on 11 March on Canberra’s Super Sunday.

Olive says she will have a brief let-up and he will likely use the Lightning Ridge in Canberra two weeks before the Black Opal as her lead-up event where she will be suited at the set weights.

Sizzling Belle has been entered for the Golden Slipper but a start would be dependent on the strength of her Black Opal run.

Meanwhile, Olive’s Caulfield Cup placegetter Single Gaze will jump will jump out at Caulfield tomorrow (Wednesday) after rain halted proceedings this morning.

She will return in the in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield on 10 February heading into the Ranvet Stakes and the BMW, both in Sydney.
