Stakes company next for Caprossa

Canberra based trainer Paul Jones will now look to earn some valuable black type success with Caprossa following her impressive victory last weekend.  Successful in continuing her affinity with the Warwick Farm circuit the daughter of Commands proved too strong for her rivals when racing up on the speed.

"The initial instructions were to sit just of the lead but Adam [Hieronymus] took the initiative to roll forward on her when the pace slackened," Jones said. "She came home in 33.60 so it was always going to be hard to run her down in the short straight."

Kevin Sweeney 60th Birthday

Jockey Kevin Sweeney turns 60 years of age tomorrow and at today's race meeting Kevin's contribution to racing is acknowledged by a race named in his honour and prior to his race at approximately 3.45pm a cake presentation and singing of happy birthday will take place in the mounting yard with participating jockeys at today's race meeting being involved. Members and public are encouraged to join in.

Jacinta on track for Metro win

Progressive mare Jacinta remains on track for her first metropolitan victory with the Matthew Dale trained galloper set to line up at Randwick on Boxing Day.

Resuming with a strong performance to salute at Canberra first up the daughter of Commands would go to prove game in defeat when racing against the pattern at Canterbury last start.

"It was a good strong effort last start, unfortunately from barrier two she ended up three deep and had to cart the field up to the leader," Dale said.

Tempo the key to Caprossa's chances

Canberra based trainer Paul Jones is reliant on a fast tempo to allow his mare Caprossa to come into contention when she resumes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Unbeaten in her three previous first up attempts, Jones admits she will have her work cut out after drawing wide in the fifth race of the day.

Prone to racing up on the speed the daughter of Testa Rossa will likely have to settle a pair further back than previously anticipated however Jones is confident she can work home into the finish.

Entree Time is lining up for his fourth straight win when he contests the John McGrath Auto Group Benchmark 55 Handicap at Canberra on Friday.

Entree Time has emerged as a promising stayer following wins at Gundagai and Bathurst over 1800 metres and Canberra over 2000 metres at his last start on 15 December 2013. On that occasion he was able to dictate his own terms in front and held on to win by a long head from Kingspiel.
