Memorial Cup to Enhance Students Race Day

The Memorial Cup raced annually in honour of the memory of respected Canberra race-caller Tony Campbell is to be re-scheduled.

The race will be moved from the autumn to the spring and will be programmed on the popular Students Race Day on 7 October 2016.

The prize money for the race will rise from $30,00 to $35,000.

Canberra Racing Club Chairman, Dr. Chris Ward says the club’s vision is to create a vibrant spring race meeting with strong corporate and public support.

He says spring racing in Canberra will be boosted while autumn is already well-served with the Mercedes-Benz Canberra Black Opal Stakes and the Affinity Electrical Technologies Lightening Ridge Plate.

Last year the Students Race Day attracted some 2,500 students to the races from all 7 Canberra tertiary institutions.
