Jacinta on track for Metro win

Progressive mare Jacinta remains on track for her first metropolitan victory with the Matthew Dale trained galloper set to line up at Randwick on Boxing Day.

Resuming with a strong performance to salute at Canberra first up the daughter of Commands would go to prove game in defeat when racing against the pattern at Canterbury last start.

"It was a good strong effort last start, unfortunately from barrier two she ended up three deep and had to cart the field up to the leader," Dale said.

"She didn't get a sweet a run as were hoping for and it was a good tough effort under the circumstances.

"Nothing went right from a good gate everything went wrong."

Following a very similar plan to that of her first preparation, Dale has elected to keep Jacinta at six furlongs on Thursday but does plan to try her over further later on.

"She did go out to 1400m at Caulfield last preparation and I think she will get out to that distance again this time in but the big track, third up, 1200m looks to suit," Dale said.

A victor of four of her six career starts to date, Dale said he does not have any immediate plans with the four-year-old and hopes to just take it as it comes.

"She is a progressive horse and is a nice Commands mare with a decent pedigree and will just keep taking it one race at a time with her," Dale said.

Recent stable addition Your Excellency has recently sparked a return to his best form all of which Dale attributes to some recent gear changes.

"We put a set of ear muffs and a norton bit on him just to bring him back a bit, he was going way too hard in his races," Dale said.

"He still does go quite hard but he's just come back that little bit which has allowed him to get out in trip a bit.

"He was struggling to run out a 1000m and now he's running out 1200m or 1250m, so that's clearly been the biggest turn around for him."

With both horses nominated to contest the same race Dale said he does plan to run Your Excellency in another race but may be inclined to run both horses against each other.

"Jacinta is definitely going to that race, I have nominated Your Excellency in another race but I'll just wait and see how they work tomorrow," Dale said.

"Jacinta will definitely be going and possibly Your Excellency as well, I don't usually like to have two good hopes in the same race but sometimes it's not avoidable.

"They do become hard to place in the country when they do creep up in the ratings and now they both have two solid city runs under their belt it looks like a nice race for them."
