Hippopus Leads Throughout In Canberra Cup

Tim Clark’s winning day at Canberra has continued with Hippopus making all in the Listed Canberra Cup.

Little more than an hour after winning aboard pick up ride Cosmic Cube in the Listed National Sprint, Clark was again celebrating a stakes success as he led throughout aboard Hippopus in the Canberra Cup.

As near even money favourite Arab Dawn incurred major interference in the straight, Hippopus won over the closing duo of Off The Rails and Centre Pivot.

A multiple Group placed stayer, Sunday’s Canberra Cup is Hippopus’ second career victory at Stakes level having won the 2013 VRC St Leger (2800m) as a three-year-old.

Hippopus is Gai Waterhouse’s fourth Canberra Cup winner, with Jay Bee Cee (1995), Regal Touch (2000) and So Assertive (2004) having all ventured down the highway in the past for the stable.

Well supported favourite Arab Dawn while unlucky in the straight was still disappointing, running a well held fourth.
