Group 1 Double Looms For Fell Swoop

A Group 1 double is now in the sights of crack Canberra sprinter Fell Swoop following his win in Saturday’s Group 2 Victory Stakes at Doomben.

Trainer Matt Dale says the BTC Cup on 14 May at Doomben and the Doomben 10,000 on 28 May are Fell Swoop’s immediate targets.

A decision will then be taken whether he contests the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap on 11 June on the new Eagle Farm surface.

Fell Swoop took his earnings to more than $1 million with the Victory Stakes win — coming off a second placing to Chautauqua in the weight-for-age Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes.

On Sunday Chautauqua recorded a stunning victory in the Chairman’s Sprint at Hong Kong — marking him as the world’s best sprinter.

Dale says Fell Swoop is still learning and will take benefit from the Victory Stakes run.

He says it was the gelding’s first time at Doomben and the experience will have done him the world of good.
