Gratz Vella Has You’re Kidding Me Peaking For Randwick

Canberra trainer Gratz Vella has You’re Kidding Me at peak for Saturday’s TAB Highway Handicap CL3 (1000m) at Randwick.

You’re Kidding Me resumed with a solid CL3 Highway third at Randwick on the slow with Tommy Berry up — and then placed again on the good in a Hawkesbury BM60 with Kathy O’Hara aboard.

“Third-up You’re Kidding Me always puts his best foot forward third-up,” says Vella. “I was happy with the Hawkesbury run and he’s gone forward since then.”

Vella says the Zizou gelding is a dry weather horse and raced at Hawkesbury to avoid the persistent wet tracks in the Canberra region.

“Tommy Berry is back on and I give the horse a very good chance on Saturday.”

Vella says one of the stable stars American Time is back at work and will be given a different preparation this time in.

“Last time she mixed her distances and we took her out to 2000m which in retrospect didn’t suit.

“We’ll keep her to 1400m and the mile this time and you will see a better horse.

“Earlier in her career she put a string of wins together for me and showed real promise.”

Vella says Motime came back into work at the same time and the Uncle Mo 3yo is one to keep an eye on.

“He won his first start for me and then I put him in the deep-end, including the Black Opal.

“But the horse goes all right and we should see him and American Time back racing in about six weeks”
