Gratz seeking hat trick with Stephan
Canberra trainer Gratz Vella will have a handy representation at Friday’s meeting on the Acton track, headed by STEPHAN.
The stable always performs at this time of the year and has produced a creditable 12 winners this season at Canberra.
Stephan lines up in Race 2, the Club Lime Benchmark 67, seeking the hat trick.
The 5yo Krupt gelding had his first run in August 2015 placing third in a Canberra Maiden and then was off the scene for nearly three years with a frustrating run of setbacks.
“We knew he had ability but every time we had him ready to go he would hurt himself— in the paddocks, stalls, you name it,” Vella said.
“This preparation we finally got him right and he’s won four from the five runs and placed the other just beaten.
“On Friday he steps up to a BM 67 but keeps the claim and his work suggests he’ll be hard to beat again.”
In Race 1, the Premi-Air Heating And Cooling Services CL1, Vella has MOTIME engaged coming off a minor set back. “He’ll run well but it might prove a bit short for him.”
MIRRABOOKA and BOYS DAY OUT will fly the stable flag in Race 4, the Pod Projects Group BM 55. Mirrabooka is back from a spell. “We have only had him six months or so are still working him out. We expect him to be better later over a bit of ground.”
BOYS DAY OUT has had plenty of racing but loves stable like according to Vella. “He’s always a chance if he’ turns up’. He placed the latest and this is his right grade. The claim helps and he’s working well.”
QUANTUM TIME in Race 5, the Transtate Tyre and Suspension Services Maiden, is one of the stable’s best chances, Vella said.
The 3yo has placed three of his four runs and just missed on the Acton first-up and ACT jockey premiership contender Richard Bensley sticks,
FUTURE TIME will contest Race 6, the Procurement Professionals CL1 Maiden and should be ready to fire fourth up. “Last time he got caught in the heavy part of the track but worked into the finish well when he found better ground. He’s in his right grade and is ready for it.”
