Damian Browne Booked For Fell Swoop — Doomben 10,000

Crack Queensland hoop Damian Browne has been booked to ride Canberra sprinter Fell Swoop in Saturday week’s Doomben 10,000 (1200m).

Browne is best known for his association with champion Queensland sprinter Buffering and is a renown big race performer.

Fell Swoop will be out to win his first Group 1 when he competes in the time honoured sprint.

Canberra trainer Matt Dale elected to miss Saturday’s Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm and to keep Fell Swoop on the fresh side for the Doomben assignment and confirmed last night that Browne will take the mount.

This year the Doomben 10,000 is being run over 1200m and Dale believes this will be ideal for Fell Swoop of the brief freshen.

The gelding was last seen running third behind Chautauqua and English in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on 1 April with Hong Kong wiz Joao Moreira in the saddle.

This was Fell Swoop’s fifth placing at Group 1 level and Dale believes the Doomben 10,000 provides his galloper with his best chance to break the Group 1 duck.

Fell Swoop won a barrier trial at Goulburn on Friday.

He is currently on the second line of betting at $7 for the Doomben 10,000, along with Saturdays’ Victory Stakes victor Music Magnet. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Russian Revolution is at the top of the market at $4.6.
